Why that date
Lithuanian tradition centres on Kūčios, the Christmas Eve feast of twelve symbolic dishes and wafer-sharing, with the tree traditionally decorated on the same day as part of the overall Christmas Eve preparation.
What actually happens
The Kūčios meal (12 dishes, representing the 12 apostles, eaten meat-free) is the true centrepiece of Lithuanian Christmas Eve, with the tree a secondary but same-day custom.
