The short version

This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics beacons and performs no geo-IP lookup. There is no login, no profile and no advertising network embedded in the page.

How your country is worked out

The site stores nothing at all — no cookies, no local storage, no session data. Light or dark mode follows your device setting, and the toggle lasts only as long as the page is open.

Your browser reports a timezone — for example Australia/Hobart. We read that value in JavaScript on your own device and match it to a country in a list stored in the page. The value is never transmitted to us or to anyone else. If the guess is wrong you can change it with the country selector, and that choice is also kept only in the page you are looking at.

Calendar reminders

The reminder buttons generate an .ics calendar file in your browser and hand it to your device. Nothing is uploaded.

Email reminders

If you choose to enter an email address for the annual reminder, that address is stored solely to send you one email a year and is never sold, rented or shared. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe. You can also ask us to delete your address at any time by writing to hello@whencaniputmychristmastreeup.com.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links to Amazon carry a tracking tag so that Amazon can attribute a purchase to this site. Once you click through, Amazon's own privacy policy applies to what happens on their site. We never see your name, your card details or what you bought — only an aggregate commission report.

Server logs

Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs, including IP address and browser type, for security and troubleshooting. These are not used to build any profile of you.

This site is operated from Australia and complies with the Australian Privacy Principles. If you are in the UK or EU, you retain your rights of access, correction and erasure under the UK GDPR and GDPR; write to the address above and we will action the request.
